FPBA-01-KIT ABB Drives, PROFIBUS-DP Communications Module

The ABB FPBA-01-KIT PROFIBUS-DP Communications Module provides a practical communication interface between compatible ABB drives and PROFIBUS industrial networks. By installing the FPBA-01 into the drive's option slot, the drive can operate as a PROFIBUS network slave and exchange control and monitoring information with a PLC or other PROFIBUS master. This allows important drive functions such as start, stop, run enable, speed reference, torque reference, status monitoring and fault reset to be managed through the industrial network. 

The FPBA-01 uses PROFIBUS DP over an RS-485 physical layer and supports communication speeds up to 12 Mbit/s. Depending on the transmission rate, PROFIBUS cable lengths can range from shorter high-speed connections to as much as 1200 meters at lower transmission rates. The network can support up to 32 nodes on a segment without repeaters and up to 126 nodes when repeaters are used. This makes the module suitable for distributed industrial automation systems where multiple drives and automation devices need to communicate with a central control system. 

For machine builders, system integrators and industrial automation maintenance, the FPBA-01 PROFIBUS DP adapter provides a flexible way to integrate ABB drives into existing PROFIBUS-based control architectures. The module includes a 9-pin D-SUB network connector, a 20-pin drive connector and three diagnostic LEDs for HOST, MODULE and NETWORK status indication. Its functionally isolated bus interface and coated circuit board further support reliable integration in industrial drive applications.
